If you had a chance to become a millionaire in a legally correct way, wouldn’t you jump on it?
Sudhakaran didn’t.
Like any usual day Sudhakaran was working hard in his small convenience store, in Kerala, when he got a call from a regular customer asking him to keep aside 10 lottery tickets. He set aside the tickets as requested and realised that one of those tickets had won the jackpot when results were announced later that evening! Neither were the tickets paid for by the customer nor had Sudhakaran revealed the serial number of the tickets to the customer. If he had wanted, he could have kept the money for himself and legally he would have not been wrong. But his father’s words – “beg if you have to, but you should never steal someone’s right” rang in his ears and Sudhakaran gave away the winning ticket to the customer to claim the prize money.
This display of honesty and virtue is not a one-off incident for Sudhakaran. Prior to this, on another day, Sudhakaran found a gold chain on the floor when he was travelling. He had promptly handed it over to the cops who managed to find and return the chain to its rightful owner.
When honesty is a policy, the decision making in any situation is very easy, isn’t it?
